# What is a hook?

A hook is the first one to two seconds of a short video: the line or visual that stops the scroll and earns the next few seconds of attention.

Strong hooks name a problem, a surprising result or a curiosity gap, and often name the audience. Hooks are the most important thing to test in short-form ads.
